And it was simply amazing.
Stapleton and Kings of Leon were part of a bill with Kelsea Ballerini and Wild Club for one of Nashville’s biggest parties of the year. The Music City New Year’s Eve Bash on Lower Broadway drew a record crowd of 150,000.
After Kings of Leon’s set was over, the band invited Stapleton to join them onstage for the last song of the night. Once Stapleton appeared with his acoustic guitar strapped over his shoulder, Kings of Leon lead singer Caleb Followill launched into the first verse with Stapleton stepping up to the microphone for the second.
As the CMA Award winner began singing, it didn’t take more than the first few words before a rousing “woo” swelled from the crowd. The two singers then continued swapping out verses three and four as well.
The performance had to be an incredible thrill for Stapleton who has been knocking around Music City for years as a songwriter. Singing to a crowd like that had to put an exclamation point on a life-changing year for Stapleton and catapult him into the new year in grand fashion.
He wasn’t able to stick around smiling too long after the performance though. His 2016 tour kicked off later that night in Birmingham, Ala.
