It’s the chance you take each and every time you walk into a sporting event. Whether it’s the chance you take that a baseball will come flying at you on the first base line or a puck can scream over the plastic partitions at a hockey game, it’s often worth the gamble to see sports at their best.

But, that chance increases greatly when you are at any sort of car race.

While tracks all across the country have done their best to ensure the safety of their fans, there are still times that no guardrails can protect a car going into the stands. And that’s just what happened on the evening of Feb. 19, when a car crashed through a fence and into the stands at Volusia Speedway Park in Florida. It was all captured on video shown on WFTV-TV.

“[It] looked like they had one car bump into another car,” a fan told WFTV-TV. “One went up and over the fence, another went up onto the embankment and one went down the siderail.”

Reports say that one person is seriously injured as a result of the accident, with two other currently recovering from their injuries. The crash took place in turn two of a dirt car Nationals World of Outlaws event.
“First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers are with the race fans,” a statement from the racetrack said. “We were able to identify one of the participants as Mr. Gary Streek. He is stable and visiting with family and friends.”
