“Like father, like son,” they say.
And boy, does that ring true for Willie Nelson and his son Lukas.
One can’t deny just how similar these two sound, especially when Lukas took on Willie’s hit “Always on my Mind” during a late-night jam performance back in 2013. While a number of artists such Brenda Lee, Elvis Presley and Loretta Lynn have all given the beloved classic a spin, Willie’s Grammy-winning version in 1982 seemed to make the biggest impression on music fans worldwide.
Yet, this impromptu version is certainly goose bump inducing, especially since Lukas has undoubtedly inherited his famous father’s musical talents and the almost effortless way he can deliver a romantic ode with a sexy country growl that nobody can resist.
Flash forward four years later from Lukas’ spine-tingling performance, and country fans are looking forward to hearing that amazing voice a whole lot more. Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real released their third album in February 2016 and quickly made an impression on listeners who best described it as “cowboy hippie surf rock.”
Now, the band, which features both Lukas and his brother Micah on vocals and guitar, is out on the road, playing throughout the month of March with shows in California and Texas.
