Dickey Betts is one of the biggest inspirations for guitar players in any genre. He’s also responsible for giving The Allman Brothers Band their biggest hit, “Ramblin’ Man,” and their signature sound. And now, the singer, songwriter and musician’s wife, Donna, has been arrested on 18 counts of aggravated assault.

According to Sarasota’s “Herald Tribune,” on March 28, Donna was accused of pointing a rifle toward a group of hundreds of teenagers and their coaches who were part of the Sarasota Crew team, who were by the water for practice. In the 911 phone call acquired by the newspaper, one of the coaches can be heard telling the police dispatcher that Donna was standing on her dock, peering at the rowers through the scope of a rifle. He also mentions that there is already a restraining order on the 62-year-old woman.

At one point, Donna flings the gun into the water and returns to her house. The coach tells the dispatcher, “She said she was going to get a loaded gun.”

He can then be heard ordering his fellow coaches and the crew team away from the scene. Apparently, shortly thereafter, Donna called the sheriff’s office and told authorities that the rowers had “destroyed her life.”

The paper further reports that there have been several issues between the Betts, members of the Bay Preserve community and the law. In 2013, as the Sarasota Crew met, shots were heard coming from the Betts’ property. Still other incidents involve alleged noise violations and creating a public disturbance.

Donna was expected to appear in court on March 29.
