The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. And that doesn’t just apply to children who look just like their parents or those who pick up personality traits. It also means that moms and dads can pass along tastes and interests, including music. Who among us doesn’t have a memory of riding in the car with Mom or Dad and singing along to their favorite tunes?

Sometimes that interest becomes of a fiery passion that only grows stronger with each generation. That’s exactly what happened with up-and-coming country songbird Carly Pearce. The beauty was surrounded by music in her home from the start.

But, it wasn’t country.

Carly tells Rare Country, “My grandfather, my papaw, he played clawhammer banjo and his parents played in a bluegrass band, but I come from a family of music lovers and so there was always music — all kinds of music.”

There may have been all kinds of music, but “Blue” was her color. As a very little girl, she heard LeAnn Rimes’ debut hit single, “Blue,” and it planted the seed of what would become her career.

But, there was also that early interest in and exposure to bluegrass that pulled at Carly’s 11-year-old heart — especially after she heard the angelic voice of Alison Krauss. “It kind of changed the game for me,” she says.

After cultivating an interest in bluegrass music, Carly’s parents continued to nurture it by taking their young daughter to jams and festivals where she discovered the world of gospel bluegrass. She also had an opportunity to record a few tracks on her own and that pretty much sealed the deal on her destiny.

“A man that was running the studio said, ‘Wow, we just lost the lead singer of our bluegrass band,’” she remembers. He offered that tween the lead singer’s slot and, with her parents’ blessing, Carly was on her way to becoming a professional entertainer.

And thank goodness she followed her path from Taylor’s Mill, Kentucky to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee where she performed at Dollywood, and finally to Nashville where we get to watch this young lady’s star continue to carve her own unique path in country music.

Her debut single, “Every Little Thing,” is already resonating with country music fans everywhere because of its honest lyrics that confront a breakup head on. You can listen to it here.
