When I pray today, I will pray for Rory Feek

On March 4, 2016, music fans were rocked by the news that Joey Feek of the country duo Joey+Rory had passed away after a triumphant battle with cancer. The woman, who we once marveled over thanks to her talent, beauty and faith, was gone from this earth – and we were shattered.

And now one year later, it still hurts.

It still seems awfully unfair that a seemingly healthy woman in the prime of her life would be taken away from the husband she adored and the baby girl she was enamored with. And as much as Joey’s story continues to hit us, our thoughts often turn to Rory.

Sweet Rory, the guy who always seems to find a way to put a smile on his face and whose faith has stayed strong despite the most tragic circumstances. Is he really OK? Is he not angry with God? Is he sad that life has turned out this way? Does he feel empty having to live his life without the love of his life by his side?

We think the answer is yes to all.

However, he continues to persevere. He continues to be the man and father his children so desperately need, and Rory continues to lean on his faith to get him through the darkest times.

And yes, we could all learn a lot from him.

So today, I pray for Rory. I pray that he continues to find the good in bad situations. I pray that he continues to find the strength when he feels his weakest. And I pray that he gets through this weekend – the one-year anniversary of his wife’s death – feeling the love that surrounds him right now and forever more.
