101-Year-Old Former Nazi Jailed for 3,500 Counts of Accessory Murder

A 101-year-old man, identified as Josef S., was just sentenced for his role in the Holocaust. The centenarian was sentenced to five years (due to his age) for aiding and abetting the murder of thousands of victims at the Nazis’ Sachsenhausen concentration camp.

Josef S. could only partake in short court sessions, held in a gymnasium near his domicile, due to his age. He would periodically need to take leave for medical reasons.

Josef S. denied being a part of the Nazi regime, claiming he was a farm laborer in another location. Despite his attempted alibi, the Neuruppin Regional Court found him guilty based on historical documents.

People were “cruelly tortured and murdered there every day for three years.”

Judge Udo Lechtermann told Josef S. that, “The court has come to the conclusion that, contrary to what you claim, you worked in the concentration camp as a guard for about three years… You willingly supported this mass extermination with your activity. You watched deported people being cruelly tortured and murdered there every day for three years.”

Records allegedly show that Josef S. served as part of the Nazi paramilitary wing from 1942 to 1945. Josef S. was allegedly stationed at the Sachsenhausen concentration camp. It is estimated that between 40,000 and 100,000 people were murdered at that camp. Sachsenhausen was established in 1936 and relinquished to the Soviets in 1945.

Victims included Jews, homosexuals, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and anyone else deemed as “undesirable” by the Nazis. Victims were brutally murdered via gas chamber, hanging, mass shootings, and other atrocious methods. What’s more, they endured unsanitary conditions while starved, beaten, and treated as subhuman. Many were moved to the Auschwitz concentration camp in 1942, where they more than likely died.

The head of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, Josef Schuster, said that “the verdict is to be welcomed.”

Schuster added, “The thousands of people who worked in the concentration camps kept the murder machinery running. They were part of the system, so they should take responsibility for it.” He said, “It is bitter that the defendant has denied his activities at that time until the end and has shown no remorse.”

The Verdict “Sends a Message”

The head Nazi hunter at the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s office in Jerusalem, Efraim Zuroff, told AP News that the verdict serves as a form of closure for many victims and their families. He said that it “sends a message that if you commit such crimes, even decades later, you might be brought to justice.” However, he acknowledged the possibility that the man may not serve his entire sentence due to his age.

Josef S. and his attorneys intend on appealing the verdict.

Josef S. covered his face during the proceedings.

  1. It does seem a little late to sentence someone at that age to a prison sentence. He most likely has dementia & doesn’t even know what day it is or why or where he is!. He will pay for his crimes on judgment day.

  2. This is the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen… Some piss poor records say he was there he said he wasn’t sounds like some he said she said bullshit

  3. Trust me if the shoe was on the other foot he would have been pleased to round up all those who didn’t think or look and believe as he did. I say reap what you so.
