Pat Smith lost her son Sean in the 2012 attack on the United States consulate in Benghazi. Smith holds on to the hope that she will receive answers about her son’s death.

Smith is an outspoken critic of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, who she says did very little on behalf of her son as the Secretary of State during the time of the attack.

Smith had previously called Clinton a “liar” and doubled down on her criticism at the Republican National Convention (RNC):

After giving her speech, GQ writer Bethlehem Shoals had something to say about Smith. First reported by Newsbusters, Shoals tweeted, “I don’t care how many children Pat Smith lost I would like to beat her to death.”

Shoals continued to rant on Twitter, saying that she had annoyed him.

After a very negative response, Shoals issued an apology at Medium and made his Twitter profile private. He is still employed with GQ.
