A sex shop owner in Spain took a NSFW approach to his nativity scene, offending quite a few people in the process Creative Commons

Hector Valdivielso is the owner of the Non Sit Peccatum sex shop in Talavera de la Reina, Spain, and with Christmas right around the corner, he decided that, just like many businesses do this time of year, he would put a nativity scene outside of his store.

But it was the NSFW nature of his nativity scene that had all the Catholics in the neighborhood very much offended.

Valdivielso, who painted representations of Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus onto three ceramic dildos, wrote on his Facebook account that he received many threats as a result of the scene.

“A man with his wife ordered me to remove the offending scene and said that if I didn’t he would remove it himself,” he wrote, before later posting another threat that read, “Learn the word respect. There will be no more warnings. Heed my words if you want to see 2017.”

With his shop sign later getting vandalized and vocal protests outside of his store, Valdivielso removed the nativity scene for a while. He later put it back up after conducting a poll with random passersby, 78.5% of which voted for the nativity scene to stay.

“People asked me not to give in to blackmail,” Valdivielso said. “So it’s going back in the window.”
