A plane crash in Alabama has tragically taken the lives of six parents YouTube/AL.com

Tragedy struck when a small aircraft carrying six people crashed in Tuscaloosa county, Ala.

The victims were three married couples flying to Oxford, Miss., from a dental conference in central Florida. Al.com reports that the couples had 11 children between them.

Crash victims include Dr. Jason Farese (dentist) and his wife Lea (dentist), parents of three young children.

Dr. Michael Perry (periodontist) and his wife Kimberly (nurse), also parents of three children, and Dr. Austin Poole and his wife Angie, parents of five children.

The pilot issued a distress signal around 11:10 AM on Sunday. The aircraft crashed at 11:20, succumbing to engine failure. The crash site was a wooded area just outside of the Tuscaloosa Regional Airport in Northport. It’s not yet confirmed whether the Tuscaloosa stop was scheduled or not.

Approximately three minutes after the crash, firefighters arrived on scene. “They did everything they could,” said Northport Mayor Bobby Herndon.

“It’s a sad day. We want everybody to pray for the families,” he said in a press conference.
