A JetBlue plane departing from John F. Kennedy International Airport was forced to make an emergency return when a passenger overdosed on heroin and anxiety pills. The 24-year-old Long Island man, whose identity has not been released, was on his way to a drub rehabilitation facility in Florida prior to the incident.

Around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday night, the plane was on the taxiway gearing up to take off when the man began foaming at the mouth and falling in and out of consciousness. According to officials, he was also having trouble breathing. The plane was then immediately brought back to a terminal, where Port Authority officers Eric Stern and Sean Pomerantz tended to the victim.

Stern and Pomerantz administered giving the man a dose of Narcan, a drug that reverses the effects of an opiate overdose, which stabilized his breathing and vitals, potentially saving his life. Afterwards, the man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he is expected to recover.
