President Donald Trump took to Twitter on Friday morning to back up his former National Security Advisor, General Michael Flynn.

On Thursday night, news broke that Flynn would seek immunity from the Justice Department in exchange for testimony given to the House of Representatives about the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia.
Over the last several months, intelligence agencies have confirmed that Russia dipped it’s toes into the 2016 presidential election, and several Trump allies may have had improper contact with Russian officials. One of those was retired General Michael Flynn who left his post as National Security Advisor earlier this year.
In his Friday morning tweet, Trump backed up his longtime associate.

“Mike Flynn should ask for immunity in that this is a witch hunt (excuse for big election loss), by media & Dems, of historic proportion!” Trump wrote.
According to a statement from Flynn’s legal counsel, the retired general is ready to talk.
“General Flynn certainly has a story to tell, and he very much wants to tell it, should the circumstances permit,” Robert Kelner wrote in a statement.
Shortly after President Trump sent out his tweet, several Twitter followers chose to point out a speech Trump gave on immunity in 2016.
“Immunity!” Trump shouted. “And if you’re not guilty of a crime, what do you need immunity for, right? Have you ever seen anything so corrupt in your life? Have you ever seen a greater embarrassment to our country?”
