HONOLULU, Hawaii — A 44-year-old man lost a foot but miraculously survived a shark attack in the Hawaiian Islands last Saturday by sticking a finger in the shark’s eye and pulling out his eyeball.
“I had goggles on, so I could see things really clearly, and I kept thinking that if I just kept punching him he would let me go,” Tony Lee told KITV. “He pulled me down one last time, so I just reached out and put my finger in his eye and pulled out his eyeball. And so he let go. So I got to the surface. I was holding his eyeball. So I let it go and was treading water.”
Lee was swimming from Lanikai to Mokulua Island, according to the report, when the shark attacked.
Lee said both his legs were in the shark’s mouth, and the shark repeatedly pulled him under water.
Two nearby canoers heard Lee screaming and applied a tourniquet while they hurried him back to shore.
Doctors said he was moments away from dying from loss of blood, according to the report.
