Two Lee County Sheriff’s deputies in Alabama who were allegedly denied service at a Taco Bell location in Phenix City can rest easy knowing that the female employee responsible for the hateful act has been fired.

The controversy was brought to the public’s attention when the wife of a deputy — not a deputy who was denied service but one who was working the same shift — posted on Facebook.

Tammy Bush Mayo posted the following two messages about the incident on social media.

According to WTVM, Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones confirmed that incident took place around 9:40 p.m. Saturday.

Jones identified the employee as a woman. He said the deputies asked if she was kidding and she said, “No, I’m not serving you.”

By Sunday, the franchise owner of the Taco Bell had fired the employee responsible and reached out to the sheriff’s department to apologize, according to a statement by Taco Bell spokesperson Laura Nedbal.

In the course of the investigation at the Taco Bell in Phenix City, Tacala, the franchise owner of that location, has terminated the employee who refused service to two Lee County Deputies on July 16th.  Tacala has contacted the Lee County Sheriff’s Department to apologize directly to the two Deputies and assure them of their ongoing support of law enforcement.

Sheriff Jones also touched on the situation in Baton Rouge, where gunman Gavin Long shot and killed three officers and critically injured another who is still fighting for his life.

Long was taken out by a SWAT team from 100-plus yards away.

Sheriff Jones offered his support to the Baton Rouge Police Department.

“I would like to include that even though the incident last night is disturbing, it is insignificant in light of the attack on law enforcement in Baton Rouge,” he said. “Our thoughts are with the families of the law officers who lost their lives in the service of their community, their fellow law enforcement brothers and sisters, the city of Baton Rouge and the state of Louisiana.”

Last week, a couple refused to sit next to Pittsburgh-area police at a restaurant. The police responded by paying the bill.
