NFL executives privately reveal what they really think of Colin Kaepernick and it isn’t pretty

A piece published Wednesday in Bleacher Report claims to show what several anonymous NFL executives think of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

The executives were interviewed and asked to comment on Kaepernick’s decision to sit out the national anthem during games as a protest against racism in the United States.

Though the executives all had powerful things to say about Kaepernick, none of them felt strongly enough about his situation to ascribe their names to their quotes.

“Fuck that guy,” one executive told Bleacher Report. The same person also said that Kaepernick doesn’t have respect for his country.

“He’s a traitor,” another added.

A third said he had never seen a player so hated by league officials. “In my career, I have never seen a guy so hated by front office guys as Kaepernick,” he said.

Though the criticism in the Bleacher Report story is damning, many are not taking it seriously because the executives chose to remain anonymous, which is the total antithesis of Kaepernick and his protest.

“If these executives stand behind their stated beliefs, why wouldn’t they put their names to it? Maybe they just don’t have the courage of their convictions,” Deadspin’s Samer Kalaf writes. “In the NFL, you can commit career suicide by speaking your mind, with the death blows delivered by cowards who never have to show their faces.”

It’s clear that at least for some executives, it’s better to keep their careers intact than to actually speak their minds, something Kaepernick didn’t seem to care about when he exercised his right to sit out the anthem.
