The tiny chihuahua mix won hearts over from the moment it landed in a makeshift animal shelter after Hurricane Harvey ravaged Houston.

After being transported to San Antonio, and then on to Arlington, Va., “Nala” was still trembling–scared and not knowing if it would ever be in loving arms again.
Interestingly, thousands of pets have been on the move since hurricanes Harvey, Maria and Irma have made landfall. Because of “weak” spay and neuter traditions in the South, the surplus of animals means they have been natural fits in adoption-loving cities like Chicago, Seattle and Washington, D.C.
Enter Kayla Robinson, 26, who wanted to adopt a small dog, but had previously no luck finding one.
“There were already other people interested in her when we finally found her,” Robinson said. “But I knew she was the dog for me.”

Robinson rescued Nala, renamed her Lizzie, and the rest is history.
