Ellwood performed CPR and mouth-to-mouth inside the gates of the Palace of Westminster shortly after the attack, but his attempt to save the officer’s life was unsuccessful. However, he stayed by the police officer’s side until an air ambulance arrived. He was then later seen heading back to his office, covered in the officer’s blood.

“I was the last one on the scene before he died […] and as soon as I realised what was going on, I headed towards it,” he told The Sun. “I tried to stem the flow of blood and give mouth to mouth while waiting for the medics to arrive, but I think he had lost too much blood.”

Ellwood, whose brother was killed by the 2002 terrorist bombings in Bali, could not comment further on the incident because he is considered a witness. He did, however, call the attack “a huge tragedy” and said, “It’s very sad.”

As of yet, four people have been confirmed dead and at least 20 injured as a result of the tragedy, in which the suspect allegedly ran pedestrians over with a car before stabbing the police officer outside of Parliament.
