The violent conflict in Syria has spanned for years and claimed the lives of more than 250,000 people, leaving an additional 11 million people forced from their homes. What began as a battle between those who supported and rejected the rule of President Bashar al-Assad has escalated into a much more complicated conflict that pits sectarian groups against each other as well.
While there is no shortage of heartbreaking footage that emerges from the rubble of the country’s ruins, a new video uploaded to The Independent’s Facebook page on Saturday, Oct. 1 demonstrated once more that the suffering is constant and horrific in Syria.

In this harrowing video, two children are seen receiving medical attention in the aftermath of an airstrike. Visibly shaken and covered in blood, the toddlers are evaluated by nurses on the ground in Aleppo. One of the children is sobbing and clutching his nurse — refusing to let go of the man who is inspecting his wounds.
The video is a sobering reminder that innocent children continue to suffer as the conflict they unknowingly inherited rages on.
