Ashton Kutcher got a few laughs with an air kiss to John McCain before delivering an impassioned testimony to Congress

When Ashton Kutcher appeared in the Senate chamber on Wednesday morning, things began lightheartedly. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) joked that star of a number of romantic comedies is “better looking in the movies.” However, things took a turn for the more serious as Kutcher talked about his organization, Thorn, which seeks to combat sexual exploitation of children.

In a heartfelt testimony, Kutcher stated, “I’ve seen video content of a child that’s the same age as mine being raped by an American man who was a sex tourist in Cambodia, and this child was so conditioned to her environment that she thought she was engaging in play.”

Kutcher received a warm introduction from Bob Corker, who is the chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, before whom the 39-year-old actor was testifying. Corker stated that Kutcher “flew all night, he’s working right now on a film.” The red “X” lapel pin that the actor and some members of the committee were wearing is, according to Roll Call, the symbol of the END IT movement.

The actor, anticipating backlash stated, “This is the time that internet trolls tell me to stick to my day job. Let me tell you about my day job,” then introduced his organization and discussed the issues that occurring in reference to sex trafficking.
