Report: In the latest stunning news, a huge ESPN name — an icon — is leaving

ESPN, which bills itself as the world wide leader in sports, has been shaken recently by a number of high-profile defection. Colin Cowherd kicked it off by bolting ESPN for Fox Sports, and since then several big names have followed suit — Heather Cox, Cris Carter, Ray Lewis, Joe Schad, Trent Dilfer, Mike Tirico and Skip Bayless have all announced they’re leaving.

According to the Big Lead, Chris Berman, who has been with ESPN since 1979 and is the voice and face of its long-running Sunday night football highlights, is retiring after next football season.

Berman is reportedly in the final year of his contract, and is opting to retire instead of leave the company. According to the report, Trey Wingo and Suzy Kolber could be tabbed to take over Berman’s spot on “Monday Night Countdown” and “Sunday NFL Countdown.”
