Kyle Roder received a call on his cellphone. The message was simple: call the IRS back or be arrested.

But there was only one problem. It was a scam.

The Wisconsin police officer called the scammer back, but on his work phone. “Hello, uh, is this the IRS? It said to call this number because it said that I had committed a fraud or something,” Officer Roder began.

Roder carried the conversation in front of his colleagues for several minutes, complete with hilarious facial expressions and one of his fellow officers pretending to arrest Roder. The scammer desperately tried to get Roder’s address under the guise of sending officers to his residence, but did not succeed.

The interaction was captured on video and shared on the Eau Claire Police Department’s Facebook page.

The Facebook video’s description also came with a warning not to try it at home:

“Officer Roder received an urgent phone call from the IRS on his cell phone this morning. He was told he was going to be arrested if he did not call back right away! So… we called them back. Officer Roder used his interrogation skills to scam the scammer. See what happened! (He is a trained professional — do not try this at home.)”

Roder then shared the video on Twitter:

“Is the ‘IRS’ threatening you? You’re not alone…” he mocked.
