Co-workers cheered wildly thinking they’d won serious Powerball cash, then the letdown happened YouTube/screenshot

Workers at Grissini Ristorante in Englewood Cliffs, N.J. laughed and cried when they thought that one of the 200 Powerball tickets they purchased was a big winner.

Video shows the unfortunate minutes in which 42 staffers celebrated a massive untruth. Everyone was hugging and backslapping.

“We were laughing. We were crying. It was a beautiful thing,” bartender Charlie Poveromo told CNN. “I got a text about 10 minutes after 11 with the numbers that a friend of mine took off the Powerball website. When I called them [out], you saw what happened — it was pandemonium.”

A dishwasher and valet quit then and there.

Then there was the letdown.

“I called my wife, and she was like, ‘Please, just check the numbers again to be sure,’” Poveromo said. “And, sure enough, when I went back to the website and refreshed, there were a whole new set of numbers there.”

The “winning” numbers were from the wrong day — awkward.
