When a Texan decided to rob McDonald’s, his outfit and choice of weapon were absurd

A Texas man is facing possible charges for robbing a McDonald’s–but his crime alone is not what’s garnering attention. Police told KFDM that 29-year-old Gevondis Demond Joseph, walked into a McDonald’s in Groves, Texas, Thursday morning wearing “a black piece of clothing over his face, a leopard print robe, orange gloves and orange Crocs.”

He was armed only with a hairbrush and when officers arrived on the scene, Joseph fled. The suspect was apprehended in a nearby parking lot. He is facing an aggravated robbery charge, which is a first-degree felony.

The Texan (Joseph hails from Port Arthur) was, apparently, hiding the hairbrush under his robe to make it appear that he was wielding a handgun. According to a Houston law firm, a first-degree felony in Texas carries a penalty of “the possibility of life imprisonment, imprisonment for 5 to 99 years, and a fine of up to $10,000.”

According to a report by the United States Department of Justice, 66 percent of violent crimes were committed with no weapon. The study also states that 9 percent of the crimes analyzed were committed with a gun. Only 4 percent of criminals used a blunt object, but we will not speculate if a hairbrush falls under that category.
