Dead Woman Eaten by Her 20 Maine Coon Cats

An urban legend — at least for single women — came true in Russia this week.

When a woman collapsed dead, her body was not discovered for two weeks… and by that time, she’d been devoured by her 20 hungry pet cats. And not just any cats: Maine Coon cats. Those are huge!

Police stumbled upon the gory scene in Bataysk, in the Rostov region of Russia, recently after responding to a wellness check. The woman’s co-worker had grown concerned that she had not heard from her. But it was too late.

Inside her home, the victim lay partially eaten, surrounded by the fiending felines.

She had also worked as a cat breeder — so she was not necessarily a cat lady. And the house was indeed packed with the pedigree beed Maine Coons.

“The cats were left alone on their own for two weeks, there was no food, so what else to eat? It’s understandable, right? They ate what there was,” commented one animal rescuer who responded to the case.

Since then, some of the cats have now been adopted by new owners for the low price of £29 each. Definitely the “I’ve-sampled-human-flesh” discount.

  1. Quite common with other cats not just Maine Cook cats. We had an acquaintance have the same thing happen to her a few years back.
