The woman identified only as “Tameka” found out about the robbery when someone called her. She then googled the story and didn’t waste any time turning in her son.

“He was involved, so it was something I had to do,” Tameka told WXYZ. “I want him to learn a lesson from this.”

The robbery occurred at Universal Coney Island. In the video, a 12 year old, a 13 year old and a 20 year old can be seen mugging a disabled 56-year-old man who had just given them a dollar.

Police released the surveillance video on Wednesday, and Tameka first saw it that night. WXYZ reports that the oldest of the trio demanded more money from the kind stranger and the two minors followed suit.

Tameka said her son told her it wasn’t planned and that he cried all night about it. That didn’t stop her from turning him in.

She’s urging other parents to stay in the loop.

“I apologize from the bottom of my heart, and I know my son is sorry too,” Tameka added. “Pay attention to what [your kids] are doing. Look at their phones, look at their friends. See who they’re hanging with.”
