Ware, 42, is accused of murdering 29-year-old Taylor Pomaski, who went missing on April 25, 2021. Authorities positively identified her remains four days after she went missing.

Per Click2Houston, court documents show that after killing Pomanski, Ware burned and then buried Pomaski’s corpse and remains. He was immediately named a person of interest and was arrested by U.S. Marshalls after being pulled over for driving 115 mph. Weapons and drugs were found in his vehicle.

Ware played college football at Washington and went on to become a tight end with the San Francisco 49ers and then-Washington Redskins (2003-04). He is due in court on Sept. 26.

“We appreciate everyone who has come forward to provide evidence and aid in our investigation,” said Lacy Johnson, a chief prosecutor in the Major Offenders Division, who is handling the case, via Click2Houston. “Although this investigation has been going on since Taylor’s disappearance in 2021, the court process is just beginning, and we encourage anyone who has knowledge about what happened between Kevin and Taylor to come forward.”

Ware is being held in the Harris County Jail and is due to make a court appearance on Monday.

“Prosecutors presented the evidence to a Harris County grand jury, which determined there was sufficient evidence for criminal charges,” said Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg. “We will follow the evidence wherever it leads and apply the law equally to all.”
