Tragic video shows the moment an aircraft crashed into a plane Sunday morning, which killed at least 68 of the 72 passengers aboard. Footage showed the plane engulfed in flames before the crash, with black smoke coming out above the wreckage. Clips of the aftermath were posted online showing the wreckage still a blaze as rescue workers recovered the bodies from the plane that crashed while landing at a newly opened Airport in the resort town of Pokhara.

 Several other images also showed rescue workers, Nepali soldiers, and outlooks gathering at the side of the crash, which is now being considered Himalayan’s deadliest airplane accident in three decades.

Fatal Nepal Plane Crash

Several other clips that were posted on Twitter show the plane flying at a low altitude over a residential area turning a sharp left before a loud explosion was heard. Yeti Airlines confirmed that there were 72 people aboard- 68 passengers and four crew. Among the passengers were 15 foreign nationals, including one French, one Argentinian, one Australian, five Indians, four Russians, one person from Ireland, and two from South Korea. According to the Kathmandu Post, there were at least two infants on board as well. 

According to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, the plane was flying from the capital Kathmandu to Pokhara in central Nepal. It still isn’t clear what caused the accident. Dahal quickly rushed to the airport after the crash and set up a panel to investigate the accident’s cause.

The tragic crash is Nepal’s deadliest since 1992 when 167 passengers aboard a Pakistan International Airlines flight were killed when a plane went on to crash into a hill. According to the Flight Safety Foundation’s Aviation Safety database, there have been a total of 42 fatal plane crashes in Nepal since 1946.
