One Daytona Beach, Fla., man proved as much, fending off a black bear who tried to get on his porch, and apparently, attack his dogs.
The man-made some loud noises and shoved the bear back, then slid over a piece of wooden patio furniture in front of the porch entrance.
It came at a cost, of course. You don’t tangle with a bear without paying a price — and this man was reportedly bitten and received some rabies shots. But let’s be honest, it could have been much worse.

Just goes to show, that if you think you can bear it, keeping your pets out of harm’s way is the bravest thing you can do. And this particular man clearly saved the day.
Hickox did say that he wasn’t worried about his own safety, he just wanted to protect his family. “Not a lot went through my head at the moment, other than what’s going to happen if he gets past me and into the house where the rest of my dogs and my wife was at,” he said.
He now plans to install a special door on the outside part of his door. Because well, he doesn’t want this to happen again. Let’s face it, no one wants to wake up one day and see a freaking black bear just chillin’ on your front porch. Nope, not gonna happen. This is truly terrifying, just thinking about it, it could have been way way worse. Some people are so lucky, his adrenaline is what probably saved him! You just never think right when you’re in a situation like this. Props to this man.
