What’s worse than arteries in your Chicken McNuggets? Well, how about a bunch of maggots in your dipping sauce?

That’s what was revealed in a video posted to Facebook by Carly Ormerod, 34, who took her daughter and a friend to a UK McDonald’s in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. They went to get some barbecue sauce, and let’s just say they got a lot more than sauce out of the dispenser.
“My daughter and her friend went to get some sauce from the spout, and her friend noticed the maggots. I’d say there were about 30 to 40,” Ormerod said. “There were flies and maggots up there, and they must have been up there for some time for them to breed like that.”
Ormerod deduced that the dispensers hadn’t been cleaned in a while, given that the sauce came out partially dry. Oh, and became a haven for the maggots.

Once the maggots were revealed, McDonald’s employees rushed to the scene, seemingly trying to keep it on the down low. But it was too late — the other customers already noticed.
“They kind of swarmed the scene in a panic and didn’t want anybody to see,” Ormerod said. “All the surrounding tables saw and everyone was horrified.”
McDonald’s didn’t mention Ormerod and the maggots specifically, but it did release a statement after the video was posted.
“Food safety and hygiene is of the utmost importance to us,” a McDonald’s representative said, via the New York Post. “We’re extremely disappointed to see that we have fallen short on this occasion.
“Our condiment area and dispensers are checked for cleanliness on a daily basis and when the matter was brought to the attention of our restaurant team we immediately took the dispensers out of action to be cleaned and sanitized.”
Well, that was nice of them.
Hopefully, whoever is in charge of this McDonald’s is working in another field. The food industry can’t afford to have maggots like that running around.
