In fact, according to Guinness World Records, Musk has lost more money than anyone, ever. The Tesla CEO recently became the owner of Twitter, and per Guinness, has lost between $180 billion and $200 billion since November 2021. A big reason cited for that is plummeting Tesla stocks.

Of course, this isn’t much of a tragedy for Musk, who reportedly is still worth about $138 billion. Still, even people who don’t ever need to worry about money aren’t exactly fans of massive losses.

A Bad Year for Elon Musk

“Although the exact figure is almost impossible to ascertain, Musk’s total losses far surpass the previous record of $58.6 billion, set by Japanese tech investor Masayoshi Son in 2000,” Guinness reported.

As is often the case, Musk was diplomatic about Tesla and the future in a late-December tweet.

“Long-term fundamentals are extremely strong. Short-term market madness is unpredictable,” he wrote upon the closing of the 2022 market.

Oh, and despite all this, Tesla remains the most prosperous car company in the world. As Guinness noted, its market cap remains $100 billion more than even its closest competitor.

Meanwhile, Musk has heard from celebrities and other users over his Twitter ownership, many of who have expressed displeasure about how he is running things. But for Musk, Twitter apparently is little more than a toy. Overall, usage is reportedly up since he took over, or has at least remained the same.
