One man in Mesa, Ariz., thought he’d lead police on a eventful chase until ending in the worst way possible.

Police were chasing the driver of a white pickup truck after an alleged hit and run through the Valley of the Sun area on Thursday afternoon, the NY Daily News reports. Video shows the driver trying to get away, leaving his vehicle and attempting to carjack a motorcycle.

CBS5 identified the driver as 31-year-old Joshua Monigold. When he went up to the rider of the motorcycle and tried to steal it, the man fought back. As police made their way toward Monigold, he ran back to his truck and drove away.

One woman told CBS5 that one police officer had a gun and started firing shots, but it’s unclear if any shots were actually fired.

According to CBS5, the chase went on through the Valley, until Monigold crashed, crossed over a median, flipped over and was thrown from his truck on Interstate 10 near Sun Lakes.

Police said Monigold was talking with them at the scene, was treated there and was later taken to the hospital.

“He was not real cooperative,” Det. Steve Berry, of the Mesa police department, told CBS5. “He did have plenty of fight left in him at that point to argue and put up a little bit of a resistance to the officers as well. Obviously having been thrown from the vehicle, he did not have a ton of fight so we were clearly able to restrain him without too many problems.

According to the NY Daily News, Monigold was found guilty of promoting prison contraband and was also in prison in 2006.
