President Trump’s daughter, Ivanka Trump, is getting an office in the West Wing of the White House and will get security clearance, even though she has no official role in the Trump administration, according to information relayed to CNN by a White House official. She will also get government issued communication devices, even though she is not a government employee.

In an interview with NPR, her attorney, Jamie Gorelick, revealed that her role will be to continue to act as the “eyes and ears of her father and provide candid advice as she has for her entire adult life. She is intending to spend some time on initiatives that she cares about, particularly with regard to women in the workplace.”
While Ivanka has been by her father’s side and acting as an unofficial adviser since he took office, the move to give her an office and provide her with security clearance has raised eyebrows as well as ethical concerns. It has also brought President Trump’s own words from just a few months ago to the forefront once again.
In November, reports started circulating that then President-elect Trump was trying to get security clearance for his children. In a strongly worded tweet, the newly elected president denied the reports, writing, “I am not trying to get ‘top level security clearance’ for my children. This was a typically false news story.”

Now, just four months later, one of his children is, in fact, getting security clearance despite his denial and the fact that she holds no official role.
