Laughing Baggage Handlers Caught Throwing and Slamming Bags at Airport

Apparently, handling luggage is a grand old time. But it’s not supposed to be. At least, probably not as much fun as the three baggage handlers were having at the airport in Melbourne, Australia.

The trio was caught on video, laughing and slamming luggage onto the conveyer belt, merrily going about their business while seemingly not caring about passengers’ belongings.

It’s one thing to have fun. It’s quite another to destruct property while doing so.

With that in mind, the bag men have been suspended, pending further investigation by airport officials.

Specifically, the men were mistreating Qantas-branded luggage, and Qantas just happens to be Australia’s most popular airline. They were contracted by Swissport to handle the luggage for Qantas.

“The behavior in this video is clearly not acceptable, and our contracted ground handler is conducting an urgent investigation,” a Qantas spokesperson told the Guardian.

Swissport was equally left fuming.

“Swissport trains and manages all staff to handle customer possessions with care and diligence,” a Swissport spokesperson said, via the Guardian. “The actions of staff in the video appear to have contravened those service level standards.

“As a result, the staff in question have been stood down pending an urgent investigation.”

Qantas, meanwhile, had already come under fire for poor customer service. Swissport, however, seems to have a squeaky-clean reputation. At least, it did until these jokers came around.

“Disrespectful behavior to our customer luggage and personal effects will not be tolerated and will result in serious disciplinary action,” Swissport chief executive Brad Moore wrote in an email to employees.

“Rest assured this matter will be investigated with urgency with appropriate follow-up action. The unacceptable behavior of a few individuals will not go unchecked nor be allowed to tarnish the quality work of our whole team.”

In other words, it’s good that the baggage handlers had a good time in the video. Because they likely won’t be smiling when their next paycheck doesn’t show up.
