After that happened, a pickup truck landed on top of it.

Somehow, everyone emerged almost entirely unscathed, with two people in each vehicle either climbing to safety or being rescued by the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Two Rescued from Car Swallowed by Massive Los Sinkhole

The occupants of the pickup were able to climb out on their own, while those in the car — a woman and female teenager — needed the assistance of the LAFD and their ladder.

“Meanwhile, the road continued to slough, and, although firefighters had tried to stabilize the vehicle, it was shifting and starting to roll within the sinkhole,” the LA Fire Department said in a statement. “With the entire road compromised, firefighters had to make an immediate rescue to save the lives of the two people trapped.”

The woman and teenager were treated at the hospital for minor injuries, which again, was a fortunate outcome given the circumstances.

The Los Angeles Fire Department released a statement saying the rescue “involved bringing ground ladders and laying them down to span the hole so crews could try to reach the victims but this was not successful.”

Since then, the road has been closed as the city determines what it will have to do to repair it.

Along with sinkholes, the storms caused massive flooding, not to mention downed powerlines and damage to homes and office buildings.
