Truth is, you couldn’t — because the goldfish caught by one British fisherman looked more like a small shark, weighing in at a whopping 67 pounds and four ounces.

That’s not a goldfish. That’s a giant orange large-mouth bass.

But no, really. It was officially a goldfish, and it was given the name The Carrot. It weighs 30 pounds more than the previous world’s largest goldfish caught on record, in Minnesota in 2019.

Man Catches Worlds Biggest Goldfish

This one was caught by angler Andy Hackett, and it took about 25 minutes to be reeled in. So odds are, you won’t be seeing it in a pet store.

“I always knew The Carrot was in there but never thought I would catch it,” Hackett said, via the Daily Mail. “I knew it was a big fish when it took my bait and went off side to side and up and down with it. Then it came to the surface 30 or 40 yards out and I saw that it was orange.

“It was brilliant to catch it but it was also sheer luck.”

Hackett released The Carrot back into the water after snapping a few photos. The fish was actually placed in the fishery a while back, but until this time, had never been caught.

“We put The Carrot in about 20 years ago as something different for the customers to fish for. Since then it has grown and grown but it doesn’t often come out. She is very elusive,” fishery manager Jason Cowler said, via the Daily Mail. “She is in excellent health and condition. Congratulations to Andy on a great catch.”
