It can never hurt to go into full plant-based mode when you’re a boxer. Just ask Mike Tyson.

“I like taking mushrooms and smoking (pot) before fighting. I take psychedelics every day, mushrooms,” Tyson told Muscle and Health Magazine.

Well, OK then. Not the plants we had in mind.

But Tyson, 56, says it works for him. It helps him in his workouts and helps him be more chill, he said. And remember, this is a man who once bit off a piece of Evander Holyfield’s during their 1997 title bout.

“Cannabis is good to workout on for me. I just wish I was smoking back when I was fighting — I really lost out there from an athlete’s perspective,” Tyson told Muscle and Health.

“If I’d smoked during my boxing career, I probably wouldn’t have been so aggressive.”

Tyson was suspended from boxing as a result of the biting incident but recently has returned to the ring. He is also rolling out a cannabis company called simply “Tyson 2.0.” He seems to take particular pride in one product known as the “Mike Bites,” or pot-laced gummies that pay homage to his incident with Holyfield.

“I can now regain what I lost because I’ve been so successful with Mike Bites and other ear-related merchandise,” he said. “It’s like making lemon out of lemonade when you think about it, because I got severely fined for the ear bite and all these years later it’s turned into a blessing.

“I’ve been making hundreds of thousands of dollars just from images of biting people’s ears. It’s just incredible and I’m very grateful. It could have been bad. It could have turned out really bad.”
