An Illinois mom is getting massively shamed online after allowing her 9-year-old to get a nose piercing. Meagan Black, who goes by the TikTok handle @megz_nichole217, said her daughter Bella wanted to get the procedure done. The backlash began after Meagan’s followers noticed that Bella had a nose ring in, and it wasn’t something the TikToker seemed to try to promote.

TikTok Mom Posted Video of Daughter With a Nose Piercing, and the Internet Attacked

Meagan Black has about 50K followers and nearly 3 million likes on her TikTok.

The nose ring fiasco began when Meagan posted a video of Bella pretending to be creepy while speaking into their Ring doorbell. The video went viral and has received 26 million views and 2.6 million likes.

A comment with almost 10k likes reads, “HOL ON HOW OLD IS THAT CHILD TO HAVE A PIERCING.”

Nearly 22,000 comments followed. People were asking how old Bella was and how she was allowed to have a nose piercing.

Meagan explained that in Illinois, children are allowed to get body piercings with parental consent.

But the drama continued, and the mother’s TikTok became inundated with harassing comments about how she could allow her child to do such a thing. Some claimed that there was no way the piercing was legal because Bella was so young. Others said that it was a poor decision because the nose is still growing at the age of 9.

However, other commenters were siding with Meagan and Bella.

“My parents pierced my ears at like 5 it’s no different than facial piercing lol,” one person wrote.

“People are freaking out like most parents don’t pierce their newborns ears without consent,” another added.

9-Year-Old Bella Told Q&A Viewers That the Nose Piercing Was Her Choice

The hubbub led to Meagan and Bella doing a Q&A. The mom prefaced the video by explaining that they had been temporarily suspended from going live after Bella’s dad got “a little too defensive” on a previous live video. “As he should,” she added.

Firstly, 9-year-old Bella and her mom Meagan let everyone know that it was Bella’s decision to get the nose ring. Bella explained that she didn’t like ear piercings, so this was her way of expressing herself. Bella also said it didn’t hurt to get the nose piercing.

At one point, Bella tells viewers that they can only ask questions if they’re nice.

It’s a little heart-wrenching as it becomes apparent that the 9-year-old herself is having her choices questioned and analyzed so publicly. It kind of brings the trolling into perspective. This was the daughter’s decision — is it right to criticize her for her choice?

The mom also told viewers that she allows Bella to wear mascara because she has naturally light eyelashes as a blonde.

This isn’t the first time a parent has been shamed for a child’s piercing. Last June, another mom went viral on TikTok after posting a video of her newborn daughter with ear piercings.

What do you think? Was it right or wrong for the mom to let her 9-year-old get a nose piercing?
