Naomi Judd’s autopsy has officially been released by the Nashville medical examiner’s office. The autopsy revealed what the late country singer’s family members previously made regarding her death at the age of 76 on April 30. It was confirmed that Judd died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. This was according to an autopsy report that was obtained by Fox News Digital.

“We have always shared openly both the joys of being family as well as its sorrows, too. One part of our story is that our matriarch was dogged by an unfair foe,” the Judd family said to The Associated Press.
It continued, “She was treated for PTSD and bipolar disorder, to which millions of Americans can relate.” Judd was found unresponsive in her home by her family members. She was taken from her residence located in Franklin Tennessee to the Williamson Medical Center. She was then pronounced dead after arrival. The manner of death was then cited as suicide.

According to the autopsy, the singer’s past medical history was “significant for anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, chronic idiopathic pneumonitis, hepatitis C, hypertension, and hypothyroidism.”
“Per family, the decedent has had prior suicidal ideations and recent life stressors,” the report stated. “A weapon and a note with suicidal connotations were found near the decedent at the scene.”
According to a toxicology analysis, it showed several prescription drugs in her system that were used to treat bipolar disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder. Judds two daughters, Ashley, 54, and Wynonna, 58, announced the death of their mother through a tweet, writing “Today we sisters experienced a tragedy. We lost our beautiful mother to a disease of mental illness.”
During an interview with Good Morning America, Ashley noted, “ “Because we don’t want it to be part of the gossip economy I will share with you that she used a weapon; my mother used a firearm.”
She continued, “So that’s the piece of information we are very uncomfortable sharing, but understand that we’re in a position that if we don’t say it, someone else is going to.”
Wynonna and Naomi formed a successful country music duo The Judds back in 1983. The duo won five Grammy Awards and had a total of 14 No. 1 songs throughout their three-decade career. Unfortunately, Naomi died the day before they were set to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
