The couple had been married less than four months.

Waller County Sheriff Troy Guidry said while the woman’s body was found but her head was not, in what he referred to as a “gruesome” case.

“It was a portion of a body, dismembered, and a residence that was covered in blood — a gruesome scene, at best,” Guidry told the media.

Jared Dicus, 21, was at the scene when police arrived and was arrested after being interviewed by police and confessed to the murder. A kitchen knife was found near his wife’s severed head on a property separate from their home, authorities said.

Police were alerted to a disturbance at the couple’s home by Dicus’ family members. The newlyweds lived in a small cottage behind the main house where Dincus’ parents live in a rural area northwest of Houston.

“There have been prior calls, disturbance-wise, but nothing to this effect, to this level of violence,” Guidry said.

The sheriff added that Dincus’ wife was a native of Nicaragua who was “undocumented” as a U.S. citizen.

A GoFundMe page was created by the family to raise money for her funeral. “A parent’s worst nightmare. Anggy Diaz 21 years old daughter, sister, niece, and a friend,” the campaign stated. “Our family is shattered by the loss of such a young life.”

It describes Diaz as “the light to our family and community. Always with a smile, and cheerful personality.”

“The absence of her from our lives will be felt forever.”
