A New York City police pilot says he was unjustly stripped of his badge after his wife was involved in a COVID-19 fraud plan, as relayed by the New York Post.

Derin De Vouno was placed on modified duty after the arrest of his wife Julie De Vouno as part of the COVID scheme in January. He has now filed a petition in the New York City Supreme Court requesting to be fully reinstated by the NYPD.

Julie De Vouno owns Wild Child Pediatric Healthcare in Amityville and allegedly made more than $1 million by selling vaccine cards from her establishment. She has been charged with forgery and offering a false instrument for filing, a felony.

Shortly after her arrest, Derin De Vouno was forced to turn in his badge and gun, and removed from active duty, as well as denied retirement benefits.

He has been a New York policeman for more than 20 years after having been trained to fly helicopters and planes for the department.

“Even if it could be argued that the NYPD could have believed that [Derin De Vouno] may have been involved in the allegations against his wife, which he was not, certainly once it became clear to the NYPD that [he] was not involved there was no justification for keeping him on modified assignment,” the court filing reads.

Derin De Vouno may not have been involved with his wife’s crime, but has run into some issues involving his job previously.

Per the Post, he once lost five vacation days for flying an NYPD plane in a penis-shaped route in an effort to send an angry message to a supervisor. He’s also facing allegations of making improper flight entries.
