A 48-year-old London police officer has been dubbed one the worst sex offenders in history after pleading guilty to rape charges. David Carrick was an officer with Britain’s Metropolitan Police for 20 years. During that time, the cop committed rape at least 24 times and sexual assault at least 49 times.

Police Officer Raped, Abused at Least 12 Women
Carrick began working with the Metropolitan Police in 2001 and was suspended at the time of his arrest in 2021. He was arrested for rape after numerous complaints had been lodged against him. Those complaints involved 12 women and spanned over two decades.
The Metropolitan Police Department is now taking heat for allowing a predatory serial rapist to wear their uniform for so long.
Carrick pleaded guilty to the 49 sexual assault charges and 24 rape charges at London’s Southwark Crown Court on Monday. The British Metropolitan Police is now looking back at 1,633 sexual assault and domestic abuse complaints directed towards its department in the past 10 years. Over 1,071 officers and staff members were linked to the complaints.
It’s not clear how many of those complaints are about sex offenses, but it’s clear that the Metro Police department has a serious problem.
“We have failed. And I’m sorry. He should not have been a police officer,” Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mark Rowley told BBC. “This man abused women in the most disgusting manner. It is sickening. We’ve let women and girls down, and indeed we’ve let Londoners down. The women who suffered and survived this violence have been unimaginably brave and courageous in coming forward.”
David Carrick Committed Sex Offenses Over 20-Year Career
During the trial, David Carrick was described as controlling and violent. He would often meet women on dating apps such as Tinder. At times, he falsely imprisoned his victims. At others, he controlled their eating habits, what they wore, and who they spoke to, including their own children.
“This is a man who relentlessly degraded, belittled and sexually assaulted and raped women,” said chief crown prosecutor Jaswant Narwal. “Carrick held a role where he was trusted with the responsibility of protecting the public, but yet over 17 years, in his private life, he did the exact opposite.”
Narwal added that the sex offender had become more “emboldened” over time because he felt he could get away with his crimes without repercussions as a police officer.
More victims are expected to come forward soon.
