Pregnant Woman (Correctly?) Cites Unborn Baby As Acceptable H.O.V. Passenger

A Texas woman is using the overturn of Roe v. Wade to try to get out of a $275 traffic ticket, and who knows, maybe we have a little history in the making?

Brandy Bottone was pulled over for driving in the HOV lane while solo. But she was 34 weeks pregnant at the time. And according to the Supreme Court, and Texas law, that baby counts as a passenger.

Bottone said she told the officer she didn’t want to get political, but pointed at her stomach and told the officer, “My baby girl is right here. She is a person.'”

The police officer told her that the HOV law refers to “two persons outside of the body,” according to Bottone.

She says that Texas law states “an unborn child at every stage of gestation from fertilization to birth” is in fact an individual. The officer didn’t go for it and gave Bottone a ticket anyway.

“This has my blood boiling,” she said. “How could this be fair? According to the new law, this is a life. I know this may fall on deaf ears, but as a woman, this was shocking.”

Bottone is scheduled to take her case to traffic court on July 20. Who knows if her argument will actually go anywhere — but you have to think it might.
