Protester Sets Himself on Fire On Tennis Court at Laver Cup

One man really, really doesn’t like the concept of private jets.

In fact, he despises their use so much, he was willing to set his arm on fire on the very London tennis court. Exactly Roger Federer will play his final match.

What this accomplishes, we’ll never know. All we know is that the activist raced onto the court while dressed in a T-shirt that read “End UK Private Jets.” This madness occurred during a match between Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas and Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman in the Laver Cup match at the O2 Arena.

Twitter user Ayse Birinci shared a video of the fire, showing the crazy incident. “An activist just set themselves on fire, protesting private jets at #lavercup. I wish there wasn’t any need to create awareness about #climatechange anymore. I hope they’re not hurt. The court seemed to be on fire at one point but is not damaged. The match has resumed,” she tweeted.

“A man accessed the court this afternoon and was promptly removed by security,” an official with Laver Cup said via NBC News.

Security promptly removed the man from the court, at which point play resumed. He has since been arrested.

Federer, 41, was set to take to the court later in the day for the final match of his legendary career, teaming with Rafael Nadal to face the American doubles team of Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe.

Oh, by the way, Tsitsipas ended up rolling past Schwartzman by a 6-2, 6-1 count. So it’s safe to say the protestor wasn’t the only one on fire for the match.
