MLB Game Postponed Due to Snow… Today, in Late May

With as much as a foot of snow expected this weekend at Coors Field in Denver, tonight’s Rockies-Mets MLB game has been postponed and will be played as part of a split doubleheader on Saturday.

Weather permitting.

Colorado and New York are scheduled to play a three-game series this weekend, but given the forecast, the entire series could be in jeopardy.

Snow is starting to fall in Denver.

Ironic that while the East Coast braces for its first heat wave of the year, Colorado is facing a winter storm warning:

WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 4 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO NOON MDT SATURDAY …

* WHAT … Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 4 and 12 inches. Locally higher amounts near the foothills and Palmer Divide.

* WHERE … Fort Collins, Boulder and the western suburbs of Denver, and Denver.

* WHEN … Rain will change to snow after 4 PM this afternoon and become heavy at times tonight. Lighter snow will continue Saturday morning.

* IMPACTS … Heavy snow will accumulate on tree branches and power lines, possibly causing them to break and lead to power outages. Travel may become very difficult to impossible due to heavy snowfall on roadways.

The Mets are flying high after Thursday’s 7-6 walk-off win against the St. Louis Cardinals and lead the NL East by a whopping seven games over the Phillies. The Mets are 26-14 and have the most wins by a National League team so far this season.

The Rockies are 18-19 and in next-to-last place in the NL West, seven games behind the division-leading Los Angeles Dodgers.
