Four years ago, Jennifer Connell stopped by to celebrate her 8-year-old nephew’s birthday. When the two locked eyes, he ran to her and jumped into her arms to welcome her. They fell to the ground during the welcoming and Connell broke her wrist. Fast forward to four years later and Connell has a special gift for her now 12-year-old nephew, Sean Tarala — a $127,000 lawsuit.
Connell says her life hasn’t been the same since the accident. The New York City resident says it’s hard for her to navigate her third floor walk-up apartment. Connell said it’s also impacted her social life. “I was at a party recently and it was difficult to hold my hors d’oeuvres plate,” reports the New York Daily News.
Connell said she didn’t reveal the extent of her pain during the birthday party because she didn’t want to upset her nephew at his party.
The lawsuit claims the injuries were caused by the “negligence and carelessness” that a “reasonable eight year old under those circumstances” should have known such a forceful greeting would be harmful.
