A photo of a Martin Luther King Jr. statue wearing Donald Trump’s iconic red hat is causing a stir on social media.

The students4trump Instagram account posted the photo on April 4th, the 48th anniversary of King assassination. The picture is of King’s bust displayed on the University of South Florida campus wearing Donald Trump’s iconic red hat emblazoned with Trump’s campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again.” The post was captioned with “MLK Knows #Trump2016.”

For many the idea of using King’s reputation to promote Trump, and implying King would support Trump, is infuriating. Trump is frequently accused of encouraging racism and violence, the two things King dedicated his life to fighting.

In response to the backlash some Trump supporters claimed Trump’s agendas are not that different than King’s were.

The outrage and backlash caused some to dismiss the entire controversy as just another example of millennials being over sensitive.
