Cayman Wilson, 17, was charged with manslaughter and is being held in jail on a $15,000 bond. Those close to those involved have said they believe the shooting was accidental.

Family members identified the victim as Marissa Dikeman, 19, a student at Houston Christian University. Her grandfather told ABC13 that she had gotten off work about two hours before the shooting supposedly took place, and went home to remove Christmas decorations with her two co-workers, both aged 17.

Wilson was allegedly helping Dikeman take down the decorations when he grabbed a shotgun and fired it at her. The gun belonged to another roommate who was not home at the time, police said.

Dikeman’s grandparents added that Wilson is a “good kid” and that they hope he does not face criminal charges.

“It’s bad enough that he has to live with what happened the rest of his life,” Dikeman’s grandfather told ABC13.

Dikeman was employed by her family’s deer processing business located less than a mile from her home, according to her grandparents. She was the youngest of three siblings, ABC13 reported and was an award-winning member of the 4H club for raising steers, turkeys, and chickens.

She was set to graduate from Houston Christian in the spring.
