Jamie Otis planned to hold a press conference Thursday morning to talk about the destruction of Donald Trump’s Hollywood Walk of Fame star. Instead, Otis is now in police custody.

He took a sledgehammer and ultimately a pickaxe to the landmark early Wednesday. Otis had initially planned to auction off the star to raise money for the women who have gone public with claims Trump sexually assaulted them. But when it became clear he couldn’t remove the star, he began destroying it. It was caught on video by Deadline.

Otis turned himself in to the Los Angeles Police Department Thursday morning. He faces a felony vandalism charge which could land him in jail for up to three years, plus fines.

“I did it, and I’m very happy I did it, and I’m proud that I did it,” he said, according to an NBC4 Washington report.

“It was an act of civil disobedience, freedom of expression,” Otis, an heir to the Otis Elevator Company, said.

He’s been arrested more than two dozen times for protesting various causes.

Trump’s star is already being repaired.
