Near Thanksgiving break, SUNY-Geneseo mathematics professor, Tony Macula, sent a mass email to 600 of his colleagues who are believed to have voted for President-elect Donald Trump. In the email, he accused his colleagues of voting “for a candidate who embodies the white power movement:”
…So, you voted for a candidate who embodies the white power movement endorsed by the Ku Klux Klan, neo-Nazis and other white supremacy groups. I think it [sic] perfectly reasonable to ask you the following questions:
1. Do you believe in white power and the supremacy (of) the white race?
2. Do (you) believe that a multiethnic and multicultural democracy and [sic] succeed?
“Yes” or “no.” I will respond accordingly.
Fox News host Tucker Carlson invited Macula to his show on Monday night to discuss the email.
“We used to call that McCarthyism, the idea that people were responsible for the endorsement of others,” Carlson informed Macula. Carlson told Macula that if North Korea dictator Kim Jong-un endorsed him, that endorsement would not make him responsible for the actions of the dictatorship. “Shouldn’t we judge people by what they say?” he asked.
“He did endorse white power,” Macula argued. He said that Trump’s promise to build a wall “emboldened the white power movement.
