Three masked thieves stormed inside a high-end Brooklyn jewelry store with hammers, smashed in a few cases, and emerged with an estimated $2 million in gems. It took them less than a minute.
The robbery at Facets Jewelry took place while customers and employees stood and watched in awe, with one of the robbers threatening to shoot an employee who thought about calling the police. None of the thieves ever displayed a gun, however.
Clearly, there was no time for that.
The owner states she was helping a customer when the three thieves showed up outside. Two were outside lingering around as one was ringing the buzzer. “I always like to give people the benefit of the doubt,” she stated. “It’s difficult. You try not to racially profile anyone and not be judgmental or discriminatory.

Once they were inside, she noted that “Once inside, she said, “the guy reaches into his pocket and pulls out a hammer — I didn’t even understand how a hammer could fit in there — and he says, ‘And this is how you use a hammer.’ He smashed three of our main displays.”
“I am shocked,” shop owner Irina Sulay told the New York Post. “Honestly, it’s very scary. I couldn’t even talk yesterday. I was hyperventilating, crying, sobbing, and shaking.
“The whole thing lasted 38 seconds. They took two and a half full cases of diamond engagement rings, newer pieces we’ve designed in-house, and pieces we’ve collected — Art Deco and Edwardian rings.”
The shop owner estimated anywhere from $1 million to $2 million were stolen in rings alone.
“They knew exactly what cases to take from,” she said, via the Post. “They only took the big-ticket items.”
“The police around here are great once they’re on the case,” Sulay said. “But there needs to be more cops patrolling the street. It feels like we’re alone.”
The thieves remain on the loose.
